“I"m in the family way”是什么意思？

“be in the family way”不是“在回家路上”的意思。在英文里，這句話的意思其實(shí)是"懷孕了"。這個(gè)表達(dá)的這層含義大概在19世紀(jì)后半葉開始廣泛使用，這個(gè)詞既適用于男性，也適用于女性，意思是“即將為人父母”。

需要注意的是，當(dāng)我們想說“在路上”時(shí)，介詞應(yīng)該用 on，也就是on the way 才對(duì)。并且 on the way 除了表示在路上，口語里”to have one on the way“也有懷孕、新生兒即將出生的意思。

她正懷孕中。

● She is well-along.

她心滿意足。

● She is about to have a blessed event.

她不久會(huì)有喜事。

● She is big with child.

她懷孕了。

我們也會(huì)說“她有喜了”。可見在形容微妙(delicate)的事情時(shí)， 不論中外都會(huì)采用拐彎抹角的說法。另外，雖然同是“懷孕”， 但未婚的女性在不希望的情形下懷孕時(shí)，就說：

She is in trouble.

她有了麻煩。

“Do you have a family？”不是問“你有家嗎”

而是表示 你成家了嗎？有孩子嗎？

For native speakers the family has always been the extended family. That probably came because they had lots of contact many of my relations when I was very young.

對(duì)于以英語為母語的人來說，這里的family被認(rèn)為是你自己組建的新家庭。這可能是常規(guī)的family多是在我們的小時(shí)候與我們的聯(lián)系更多。

They wouldn"t ask "Do you have a family?" if I were referring to parents or other extended family, unless I were a foster child or something.

如果真的想問對(duì)方的父母或親戚時(shí)，是不會(huì)用“Do you have a family?”來問的，除非背景是你在和一個(gè)收養(yǎng)的孩子聊天。

"Do you have a family?" 的隱含義其實(shí)是"Do you have a spouse/partner and children?"（你有伴侶或者孩子嗎？你組建你自己的家庭了嗎？）
