something可用作不定代詞,表示有價值的事物,某種令人不快的事情等;用作名詞時,有大致,左右等含義。用作副詞時,通常與形容詞連用,有非常,很的意思。
something用作不定代詞
1.表示“聊以自慰的事”、“有價值的事物”的意思。例:
It’s something to have a job at all these days.

現(xiàn)在能找到一份工作就算不錯了。
2.表示“某種令人不快的事情”。例:
There is something in the word.
好像要發(fā)生什么事情。
3.表示“一些吃的喝的東西”的意思。例:
A little something with his meals was an absolute necessity to him.
就餐時少許喝點酒對他來說是絕不可少的。
4.表示“實有之物”的意思。例:
Some people will never learn that you can’t get something for nothing.
有些人永遠不懂人不能不勞而獲的道理。
5.表示模糊的概念。例:
Our train gets in at two something.
我們的這班火車2點多到達。
something用作名詞
1.相當于somebody,意為“重要的人物”。例:
She thinks she’s something since she won the beauty contest.
選美比賽得了獎,她就自以為了不起了。
She acts as if she were something since she won the prize.
自從獲獎以來她就表現(xiàn)得自命不凡了。
2.表示“重要的事物”。例:
These paintings were really something.
這些畫確實出色。
I think you may have something there.
我認為在那方面你可能是有道理的。
3.表示“少量”、“一些”、“部分”。例:
It is customary to give something to the porter.
給搬行李的服務(wù)員一點兒賞錢是個慣例。
There is something of her mother in her smile.
她的微笑有幾分像她母親。
something用作副詞
1.something用作副詞,表示“幾分”、“有點”、“稍微”、“大約”的意思。例:
In something under half an hour there was a knock at the door.
過了半小時不到一些,聽到一下叩門聲。
2.something like表示“幾分像”、“有點像”、“大約”的意思。例:
The building looks something like a church.
這棟建筑物看起來有點像教堂。
